Inside the Brand
Veoné Candle Studio began as a side project by siblings Emma and Marlon in Bristol, crafting small-batch soy candles from ethically sourced oils. Their goal was clear, to create clean-burning, mood-based fragrances that look as good as they smell. With earthy scents like “Forest Drizzle” and “Amber Muse,” the brand quickly gained a loyal following through Etsy and influencer word-of-mouth.
But when Veoné secured a limited-run deal with an independent concept store in Shoreditch, they faced a pressing problem: their packaging was too fragile, too generic, and didn’t align with the store’s curated aesthetic.
“We poured everything into our scents and visuals. But the moment people picked up our boxes, it felt… underwhelming,” Emma shared. “We didn’t want to compromise our shelf debut with poor packaging.”
The Problem
Veoné’s existing setup used thin folding cartons and tissue wrap which performed fine for Etsy orders, but completely unsuited for in-store displays or courier handling. They encountered:
- Structural Risk: Candle jars shifted in transit and occasionally cracked
- Brand Disconnection: The exterior looked generic, made with basic white cartons with printed stickers
- Store Pushback: The retailer requested more premium-ready packaging to meet their visual standards
“The store manager told us straight ‘the product is great, but the box doesn’t sell it’,” said Marlon.
Where We Came In
When the Veoné team reached out, their retail launch deadline was just 17 days away. We immediately booked a call to understand their scents, materials, and most importantly their customer touchpoints.
Our packaging consultant proposed a two-piece rigid box with a die-cut insert to hold the glass candle jars firmly in place. To stay true to Veoné’s sustainable roots, we selected FSC-certified kraft chipboard, and recommended debossed detailing for their brand emblem on the lid without adding gloss and coating, just natural texture.
The interior was printed with soft black soy-based ink, featuring their scent descriptions and burn-care instructions under the lid. Their designer delivered artwork within 3 days, and we moved straight to production with a 300-unit run.
“We thought we were too small to get anything custom. Aly came in with ideas, speed, and total clarity,” said Emma.
“Their brief was: protect the product, elevate the brand, and don’t add waste,” recalls Alex, senior project lead at Aly. “So we focused on precision, not extras.”
The Right Fit
The result featured a clean, tactile box that captured the brand’s minimal identity while keeping their 150g-300g candles secure. The design was upright, unshifting, and retail-shelf ready. The soft debossing gave the box a subtle luxury feel without needing foil or coatings, aligning perfectly with Veoné’s values.
The concept store gave the go-ahead instantly and requested a matching tester display tray, which we produced from leftover board stock.
What Changed
Within weeks of the launch, Veoné reported:
- Sell-through rate of 38% at their pop-up stockist with customers praising the “giftable” presentation
- A noticeable increase in customer UGC, especially unboxings on Reels and TikTok
- 🚚 Zero damages in transit — saving replacement costs and preserving first impressions
“It gave us confidence we didn’t know we needed,” said Marlon. “People took us more seriously and we felt like we were ready for wholesale.”
“Sometimes it’s not about making things flashy,” Alex added. “It’s about making them feel intentional.”
