Custom Dessert Boxes

Patisseries, café bakeries, dessert delivery kitchens and letterbox gift brands use these boxes for cheesecake slices, mousse pots, tarts and brownie slabs. Whether the dessert lives chilled or at room temperature decides the board and coating, so we confirm that before the shape is drawn.

Chilled desserts need board chosen for condensation, not just looks

Aly Packaging manufactures dessert packaging for UK patisseries, café bakeries, dessert delivery kitchens and letterbox gift brands. Our first structural question is whether the dessert is chilled or ambient. Cheesecake, tiramisu and mousse leave a fridge at around 4°C and meet warm air, so moisture beads on the carton within minutes and softens uncoated board along its folds. Chilled lines therefore get a coated or PE-lined board and a lock-corner tray that holds shape when damp. Brownies, blondies and cookies stay ambient, so lighter uncoated board works. List which bakes are chilled and the quote will reflect it.

Single slices fall over when the box is wider than the base

A wedge of cheesecake standing in a square box has room to slide, and once it tips the cream face smears against the wall. Matching the footprint to the dessert stops this. Slices sit best in a wedge box or on a die-cut card that grips the crust end. Pots travel in a holder card with holes cut slightly smaller than the rim, so each one hangs upright rather than rattling. Whole tarts lift out cleanly on a loose base card instead of being prised from a deep tray. Every footprint is measured from your real bake, because a homemade slice rarely matches a catalogue size.

Fold time on a Saturday rush: pre-glued trays versus flat sheets

Kitchen time is the hidden cost of any dessert box. A flat sheet that needs four folds and a tuck can take a trained person several seconds, which adds up across a busy weekend counter. Pre-glued four-corner trays pop open in one movement and suit cafés packing hundreds of slices a day. They cost a little more per unit but save labour. Small kitchens with little storage may still prefer flat-packed sheets, since they stack tighter on a shelf. A crash-lock base sits between the two, storing flat yet locking with one push. We price both versions so you can weigh fold time against storage space.

Materials

  • PE-lined or barrier-coated board for chilled cheesecake and mousse
  • Uncoated folding box board for ambient brownies and cookies
  • Kraft board with an oil-resistant barrier for butter-rich bakes
  • Slim E-flute mailers built to 25mm depth for letterbox gifts

Printing

  • CMYK full-colour: vibrant branding that pops on shelves and in customer photos.
  • Pantone colour matching: keeps your signature shade consistent across every run and location.
  • Digital and offset options: cost-smart for smaller batches, efficient for larger volumes.

Finishes

  • Aqueous coating that copes with fridge condensation
  • Windows in clear PET or plant-based cellulose film for chiller cabinets
  • Hot foil logos for celebration and gift ranges
  • Varnish-free label zones so allergen stickers stay put

Natasha's Law: the label rule every in-house bakery box must meet

A café that boxes its own tiramisu for a grab-and-go fridge without a full ingredient list risks enforcement action and, far worse, an allergic reaction. The Food Information (Amendment) (England) Regulations 2019, known as Natasha's Law, have applied since October 2021 to food prepacked for direct sale. Each pack must show the name of the food and a complete ingredient list with the 14 major allergens emphasised. Most bakeries print these details on a sticker each morning. We leave a flat, varnish-free label zone on the lid, sized to your printer labels, before production begins.

Delivery bag, letterbox or deli chiller: where is your dessert going?

Orders placed through Deliveroo, Uber Eats or Just Eat ride in an insulated bag beside hot food, so the box needs a tamper-evident seal and a lid that stays shut when tilted. Letterbox gifts sent by Royal Mail must stay within large letter limits of 25mm deep and 750g, which suits brownie slabs in a slim mailer but rules out anything tall. Farm shops and delis display desserts in chiller cabinets, where a window and a stable base let the bake sell itself. We specify board, depth and seal to the channel each dessert travels through.

Tell us the dessert, its temperature and how it reaches the customer

Three facts move a dessert quote forward: the bake itself, whether it is chilled, and the route it takes to the customer. Patisseries, café bakeries, delivery kitchens and letterbox gift brands then receive a board and coating choice, a footprint layout and a digital proof showing the label zone. Trial runs at low minimum quantities let one bake prove itself before the menu grows. Standard turnaround is 10 to 12 business days from artwork approval, with a rush option in 6 to 8 business days.
